By the mid-1970s, the b>3.0 CSL had established itself as the definitive weapon in the European Touring Car Championship.

Lightened, honed and uncompromisingly developed by BMW Motorsport, the CSL embodied the competitive DNA of the Munich marque.

Chassis 2212454 belongs to the very select group of genuine Group 2 CSLs campaigned in period. Operated within the racing programme associated with Martino Finotto, one of Italy’s leading touring car drivers of the era, this example was actively entered during the 1976 season, contributing to notable successes at Monza and Vallelunga.

Power is provided by the celebrated inline six-cylinder engine enlarged to 3,196 cc and equipped with the highly desirable mechanical Kugelfischer fuel injection system with slide throttles. Fully restored, the engine has produced 305 bhp at 7,000 rpm on the dynamometer—an output entirely consistent with competitive Group 2 specification of the period.

Notably, the car retains several particularly significant features:
